Daily protests are spreading across hundreds of US cities, as a mostly spontaneous but justified response of the people against fascist police brutality. The immediate trigger for the massive protest was the brazen killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers through the now infamous “knee-on-neck” restraint.
As news of the killing spread, people across the US were outraged, and joined mostly peaceful street protests. But when authorities responded with riot police’s violent dispersal tactics and arrests, the protests escalated into more militant forms of resistance.
PRISM posted a statement of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle on the Floyd police killing and the people’s protests (please click on button below). We also posted the first of a two-part commentary on the broader socio-economic and political context of racist violence and police brutality in the US.
