JMS on US occupation of Afghanistan

On the occasion of US imperialism’s failed 20-year occupation of Afghanistan, which ended ignominiously on 31 August 2021, Jose Maria issued this article, “US Occupation of Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021.” Prof. Sison is chairperson emeritus of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle.

Author’s note: This article is focused on the US-NATO war of aggression against Afghanistan and its occupation from 2001 to 2021. Response to “Tribune” editorial vs CPP stand on Biden victory

PRISM received this emailed statement by a regular reader, who requested anonymity and will temporarily go by the initials “OC”, in response to the 13 November 2020 editorial of the Tribune of the People (https://tribuneofthepeople.news/2020/11/13/to-celebrate-bidens-victory-is-incompatible-with-anti-imperialism-an-open-letter-to-the-communist-party-of-the-philippines/).

The TOTP editorial, in the form of an “open letter” to the Communist Party of the Philippines, criticizes the CPP for its statement on the recent electoral victory of Joe Biden over incumbent US President Trump. The CPP statement, entitled “On the defeat of Donald Trump in the US presidential elections,” is posted on https://cpp.ph/statements/on-the-defeat-of-donald-trump-in-the-us-presidential-elections/ .

We decided to publish Contributor “OC”s” response here in the spirit of pursuing discussions on strategy and tactics of the revolutionary mass movement as applied to various countries and as seen from the framework of Marxism-Leninism and Maoist theories on people’s war.

On the Struggle Against the Marcos Fascist Dictatorship

Today, 21 September 2020, marks the 48th anniversary of the declaration of martial law throughout the Philippines by then President Ferdinand Marcos. In the declaration, he arrogated unto himself absolute powers on the pretext of defeating a Communist Party-led armed rebellion, “saving the Republic, and building a New Society.” Marcos and his wife Imelda, their families, their clique of military generals and favored big bureaucrats and capitalist cronies, thereby ushered in a 14-year fascist dictatorship, which legacies are felt until now.

This is the full-text version of an online talk by Prof. Jose Maria Sison on the Filipino peopleʼs long but victorious struggle against that dictatorship, its social roots, impacts, and lessons for the present and future. Critique of the Trotskyite attacks on the CPP and the Philippine revolution

This interview with Jose Ma. Sison, founding chairperson of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), was published on 25 August 2020 in a special issue of Ang Bayan, official CPP newspaper. The interview focuses on a recent flare-up of accusations that Sison and the CPP “allied themselves” with Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte. Sison zeroes in on Joseph Scalice, a postdoctoral student based in Singapore who describes himself as “specializing in the history of politics and revolutionary movements in the postcolonial Philippines.” Scalice has also been criticized by other organizations of the Philippines’ national-democratic Left for red-tagging them as CPP front organizations.

Jose Ma. Sison delivered this speech at the Australia National Conference of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle on 25 July 2020. Here he presents a quick overview of the history and circumstances of imperialism, especially US imperialist interests and the restoration of capitalism in China, as factors from which the threat of war and reaction arises. He He then presents an assessment of the threat, currently and in the near future, and clarifies the tasks of anti-imperialists in order to build resistance to such a threat.

PRISM is posting the full text of the article with only minor format adjustments, not only as educational material for Filipinos, but also as reference material for other progressive mass activists and educators in various countries facing similar social conditions.
