The People’s Liberation Front (JVP) Sri Lanka marked the October Revolution centenary at the Viharamahadevi park in Colombo on 27-28 October. The organizers said it was the largest commemoration in Sri Lanka, held simultaneously with similar others across the globe.
The opening ceremony of the Commemoration was held on the 27th participated by the Leader of the JVP Comrade Anura Dissanayaka, its General Secretary Comrade Tilvin Silva and a large number of invited guests including representatives of foreign political parties and organizations.
Ambassadors of several countries, representatives of the Russian Communist Party, Soviet writer Comrade Irena Malenko were among the participators while renowned writers Dr. Hiniduma Senevi, Gunadasa Vithana and renowned artists Deepani Silva and Prasannajith Abeysuri were among the invited guests at the opening ceremony.
The Exhibition of Soviet achievements opened at 10.00 a.m. while street dramas were performed by Dr. Gamini Haththotuwegama’s street drama troupe. At 3:30 p.m. the main commemoration ceremony commenced with paying tribute to the local translators of Soviet Literature. #
